The artists in this mix have all been significant influences of mine, as someone who grew up in Houston and later went on to study acousmatic composition. I always wanted these worlds to collide, as they seem so far apart yet at the same time so similar. One is academic and rather technical, while the other is regional and more pop-oriented. However, the screw tape can be seen as an extension of tape music, and both were built upon, and have made an art of, sampling.
Some of these works are classics while others are favorites. Many of the acousmatic portions are layered with work I did in CSound and Max, using the screw tracks as source material. Enjoy!
